Ideas for the next Halloween Movie

Okay, so on a bunch of fan pages I've seen online, "Halloween Resurrection" didn't fare very well. In some ways I agree. I would like to see Josh Hartnett (John) from "Halloween: H20" again. In the next movie, Michael Meyers could come after Josh Hartnett. Since Jamie Lee Curtis's character Laurie Strode died at the beginning of the Resurrection movie in 2002, the next movie would need to delve into the funeral for his mother and how he is going to cope with that. I can see the plot take place in two different settings: (1) a city like San Francisco or Los Angeles (since that is close to where he was living in Halloween H20, or (2) he goes back to Haddonfield for family reasons or some kind of financial matter related to the death of his mother. I really like Josh Hartnett, and I think if he's willing, he could make the Halloween movie series come alive again, and maybe even make sense out of Halloween movies 3-6. Halloween H2O and Resurrection didn't even mention the events that took place in movies 3-6, despite the fact that important characters such as Tommy Doyles and Jamie Strode were featured in those movies. Maybe Josh Hartnett's character John finds out about Jamie Strode and decides to go back to Haddonfield because of that. There are a lot of angles we could go with the John character.

i just hope that in the new film they don't try to be hip like they did in resurection cuz they did not work at all for me. I am hopping they will streamline and go back to what made the original work so well but maybe dress it up in some new twists. I think we could follow john who now has become an addict lets say and dropped out of college and is living in chicago making a living in some menial job he hates. Or actually maybe lets say hes doing really well and living in a nice place in chicago and not an addict but either way you go, There could be many storylines they could mess with from there. MAIN THING IS: get some good writers to write this thing and don't try to be funny. I know how much studios want that kind of scream fdeel to the movie but it ruins horror movies in my opnion and i think we need to get back to some more serious kinda of horror film making ala circa 1970's.

Yeah, I totally agree with you. It's funny though, because Halloween Resurrection started out really well with Laurie Strode in the Psych Ward and Michael Meyers comes after her. I was upset when he finally killed her; but I can understand that Jamie Lee Curtis might have a desire to end her role as the sister of the Bogey Man after so many years. Busta Rhymes had a few good moments in that movie (like when he was walking around dressed up like Michael Meyers and he thinks one of his workers is dressed up like Michael Meyers and yells at him and makes fun of him, etc), but Tyra Banks got on my nerves throughout the whole movie.

I recently watched the original Halloween movie that came out in 1978. It had a great storyline. The interesting thing about that movie is that you don't see much killing and mayhem until about 45 minutes into the movie. It's very suspenseful and spooky, which really is what the whole halloween holiday is about. The archetype of the Bogey Man is embodied and played out by Michael Meyers; there are some really spooky scenes (such as when Michael Meyers is standing outside the classroom and Laurie Strode looks out and sees him standing across the street behind his stolen car watching her through the window; when Laurie Strode is walking home and she sees Michael Meyers standing behind the Bush down the sidewalk; and when Laurie Strode gets home and sees Michael Meyers in the backyard of her place in the middle of the clothesline with clothes drying in the wind).

The John character seems like the most likely direction for the storyline to move toward. Perhaps he has married, divorced, and now has a kid of his own. And Michael Meyers starts coming after him and his kid. I think having some children actors in the next movie is essential. The first movie was so successful because it played on the fears we all have as children and we could relate to the children's fears (like Tommy Doyles and the girl across the street, etc). I mean, Halloween really is a child's day to fantasize about being something they're not; or maybe entertaining the possibilities of who they could be. So in the original movie we see children dressing up in costumes and Tommy Doyles was great at expressing his fear of and confusion about the Bogey Man.

In the 4th Halloween movie, the Return of Michael Meyers, we got to explore Halloween from an orphaned child's perspective (Jamie Strode, not sure who the father was). And that got close to the original's exploration of Halloween. I mean, let's face it the original started out in 1963 with Michael Meyers putting on the clown outfit/mask and then going a little too far. That's something that all children are capable of; and all adults too. We sometimes put on costumes or facades, starting out with the notion that we are just pretending, but sometimes some of us find out that that's who we really are...

true enough and i liked the films that had the niece in them. I thought she was great child actress and they had somce good scares. I would love to see what someone like Marilyn Manson or lets say better yet David Lynch or Cronenberg would come up with for a script or how they might direct the next Halloween. I would get someone like thomas liggoti or poppy z brite to do s script treatment and then go from there maybe hehe.

I agree about how the first film knew exactly how to build tension and there is really almost no blood in the first film but it still manages to be ten times better and more scary than the rest of them and than most horror films out today. I think its that script and the direction. That ability of john to so expertly build on that tension and the things that scare us as kids and even adults that made it so great. Plus the muisc was so great, can.t leave that out.

Myave a storyline that would start out with John or is it Josh? I forget but start out with lauries son at her gravesite remembering his mom with small glimpses of michael myers lurking in the backround of these memories he is having . Then showing John in his new life which im thinking should be stable and controlled. Everything about his life should be ultra structured to make up for the chaos of his childhood. Like he is over controlling now to make up for not being able to save his mom ect unexplored issues he has not dealt with kinda. His wife is about to leave him cuz she can't handle his controlling ways or new twist make him gay and his bf is about to leave him cuz he cant handle his controlling behavior. The more he trys to control things the more his life is unraveling around him.
Enter a best freind either fag hag girl( jeanene garafolo or maybe somene kinda like that) if hes gay or just best freind(someone should play the part serious not as a side kick jokemaster) if hes straight and maybe even lets have tommy doyle from the 6th pic be a longtime phone buddy whom he never sees but talks to on a regular basis on the phone. They share a common history sorta and Tommy is like the one remaining piece of his past that has not been destroyed kinda thing.

He keeps seeing Michael Myers from the corner of his eye thing everywhere he goes lately and so hes getting more and more freaked out. There is an article on the net that someone sends him that Michael Myers body was never found after that last night ect..

His friends obviously think he is just lossing it cuz hes lossing his lover or wife and they dismiss his sightings of Myers as him being overstressed at first. Cliched but it is realistic.

He retreats to the safety of his apt or home where he kinda becomes hermit like until of course Michael Forces him out of it and he has to face reality cuz Michael starts killing off his friends. Forces him into a battle or struggle for his life.
Actually froget the gay thing cuz there is to many ways to go wrong with that. It would take some very talented writting to not let it become a joke halfway through the picture.

Lets say there is a girl at his work who has a crush on him and begins to wonder where he is and decides to come out to his house and find out if hes ok. They get to know each other share battle scars and find they have alot in common ect..

Tommy Dolyle is also concerned after not being to get ahold of his friend so hes flying out to see him also.

Lets also say that John is having visions or delusions of himself being Michael Myers killing people stronger and more vivid as time goes on and as Michael GEts closer. he is suffering from the guilt of not saving his mother and others so his guilt is making him Michael Myers in his dreams and visions. He is struggling against the dark forces that would drive him to kill himself. Lets also say that he has got ahold of Donald Pleasence notes and research on Michael Myers and he has been researching them to look for some kind of clue as to what Michael is and where he came from. He only find that Donald does not know and that Michael is just pure evil and there is no explanation cuz keeping it simple works best. If we try to explain it i think it would come across phoney and corny.

We see jamie in a vision telling him that the time is short and he must prepare to fight and that she loves him blah blah

When Michael finally does apear i think setting it up like the first halloween would be the best. A good cat and mouse game building on the terror with the music and tension. Im not sure but there has to be a better way to do the cat and mouse thing than they did in the last couple movies.
Maybe Michael can't actually kill John. To kill john would mean his own demise somehow and so instead he tries to get him to kill himself using his freinds somehow or something else maybe. If john kills himself though hope which is the oposite of evil and of Michael Myers would be destroyed and he would have free reign over the earth like the ushering in of some new dark power but if john does not kill himself then Michael is stuck being a phantom killer and cannot escape his own hell.

Well those are some of my ideas, hehe i think they might work though if done right:)

Very cool ideas. Yeah, I like the idea of the John character being gay too, but I think it would distract from the main plot. I was thinking about some spooky scenes for the next Halloween movie.

John is living in a big city, downtown, in a high-rise building. Maybe even NYC. He lives in a high-rise that looks down onto a lower high-rise building where he can see the roof. And he sees Michael Meyers when he goes to open the shades of his windows. I think I agree with you that John Strode (played hopefully by Josh Hartnett) should be someone who has buried himself in his work as a way of coping with what happened to his mother. Let's see, he's just graduated from a good university with honors and is now a leading attorney for a big firm in NYC. Something like that... Now I'm starting to think of some cool scenes where John sees Michael Meyers sitting in the courtroom audience, or peering through one of the courtroom door windows. How spooky would that be?! John has lost touch with his girlfriend from high school; they ended up attending different universities (she stayed on the west coast and he went to NYC or vice versa). Maybe one day while he is walking the streets of downtown NYC, he sees Michael Meyers standing behind a phone booth down the sidewalk from him. He's with an attorney partner of his from his firm, who happens to not see what John sees. Maybe John's apartment is in a high security building; with lots of video cameras, etc.

Another idea: John is at home one night and he's been having phone sex with a woman in one of the buildings across from his. He doesn't know who she is, but they seduce each other via phone every night and they undress for eachother in front of the window. However, on this night, she doesn't call because Michael Meyers got to her before she had a chance to call him. Maybe she let Michael in thinking it was John or something. So John ends up seeing Michael Meyers' shadow stabbing this woman to death. So John decides to go over to the other building. Of course his attorney buddy might have been sleeping with this woman who was seducing John via phone every night and that night Michael Meyers kills him when he gets to her place before John does.

I agree with going back to what made the original work! Psychological thrillers are so much more than blood and gore flicks! There is a point in movies lately where the killing loses its realistic scarey edge and becomes comic relief! They just don't make them like they used to and that is sad ... it is hard to have the shit scared out of you at the movies anymore! With all the special effects and technology that is used it loses that gritty rough edge that makes those older movies so much better!

I completely agree with taking "Halloween" back to a psychological level of horror. There was nothing better then the original "Halloween" and its psychological terror. I remember when I first watched the film how I thought it was so gory but now watching it I realized the gore wasn't there, but it was the psychological mind fucks that had me as a child.

I really enjoyed - not "Resurrection" - but, man, my mind is blank - ohhh, the black rap star in "Resurrection." I wouldn't mind if we saw (I wrote this in another post) them bring Laurie's daughter AND son together somehow -- this way bringing the series together. Yes, this would leave out part 6 since the daughter died but I wouldn't mind that at all.

I know - let me write the damn thing since I am such a fan.
